The Imo State Police Command has arrested two personnel of the Imo State Vigilante Organisation over the alleged assault of a young woman and her brother in Okigwe.
The incident, which was captured in a video circulating widely on social media, reportedly involved the siblings who were travelling to Abia State University.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Command identified the two suspects as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi.
The police clarified that the armed men seen in the viral video were not police officers, but personnel of the Imo State Vigilante Organisation.
The suspects are currently being detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters as investigations into the incident continue.
The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of members of the public.
He assured that anyone found culpable would face appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information, while relying on official channels for updates as the investigation progresses.
