Benjamin Kuti, a UK-based Nigerian community advocate widely known as Oluomo of Derby, has advised Nigerian men residing in the United Kingdom to be cautious when starting relationships, urging them to thoroughly verify the intentions of individuals they encounter through social media and dating platforms.
In a post shared via X on Saturday, October 31, 2026, He raised concerns about alleged situations in which romantic relationships may be used to pursue immigration claims involving asylum or domestic abuse.
He said he could not disclose the full details of the particular case because it had become a criminal matter, adding that some Nigerians in the UK were familiar with the evidence.
Among those he mentioned were X users @iamSwaga22, @eakpe, @olowora4u and @SirLarry01, whom he said had seen the evidence and were aware of the situation.
“Gentlemen, please be careful and mindful of the kind of relationships you get involved in, especially when meeting people online or through dating apps,” he wrote.
Kuti advised Nigerian men to take their time to understand people they intend to date, warning against allowing loneliness, emotions or the desire for companionship to influence their decisions.
“Do not allow loneliness, emotions or the desire for companionship to cloud your judgement,” he said.
He further urged men to be particularly cautious when meeting potential partners online, stressing the importance of protecting their emotional, financial and legal well-being.
“Not everyone has genuine intentions, and it is important to protect your emotional, financial and legal well-being,” he added.
The community advocate said he would share more information about the particular case in the coming weeks, when it was appropriate to do so.
“Stay alert, stay wise, and protect yourselves,” he advised.
