Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have foiled a bandit attack and recovered 43 sheep rustled from Anada village in Binji Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said in a statement on Friday that the attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday when armed bandits stormed the remote community, fired sporadically and made away with the animals.
He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Binji immediately mobilised tactical operatives, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Viable Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), who blocked all exit routes leading out of the village.
According to him, the security operatives engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to abandon the rustled animals and flee into a nearby forest.

“All 43 rustled sheep were successfully recovered, while no casualty or injury was recorded among security personnel or members of the community,” the statement said.
Rufa’i added that security operatives had sustained patrols and surveillance in the area to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, commended the Binji DPO and his team for their prompt response and professionalism.
He urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing efforts against criminal activities.
