The Kano State Police Command has rescued a 9-year-old boy, Ubaiyu Muhammad Sammani, from Rimin Kebbe Quarters, Kano, unhurt, after nearly four weeks in captivity.
Ten suspects, including nine men and one woman, have also been arrested in connection with the crime.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects had demanded a ransom of $30,000 for the boy’s release.
He said the rescue operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, following sustained surveillance and intelligence-led policing.

According to him, the boy was rescued on July 31 at Karshen Kwalta, Rimin Kebbe, Ungogo LGA, behind the residence of the fleeing principal suspect, identified as Abubakar Salihu, alias Sankolo, 25, who remains at large.
Kiyawa said preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested suspects played different roles in the abduction, including unlawful trespass, keeping the victim, communicating ransom demands, and facilitating his movement across locations.
The victim has since undergone medical checks at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, and was confirmed safe.
Police said the suspects will be charged to court after investigations.
CP Bakori commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their professionalism and assured residents of the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crime through proactive policing and community partnership.
He urged the public to continue providing timely information, promising confidentiality.
