Kenyan President William Ruto has toured the Dangote Refinery in Lagos ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for a new refinery project in Kenya.
Ruto said he visited the Lekki-based refinery at the invitation of Dangote Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Aliko Dangote.
In a post on X, the Kenyan president described the Nigerian facility as a major African investment, noting that it has a crude oil refining capacity of 700,000 barrels per day and produces more than 100 million litres of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel daily.
He also highlighted the refinery’s infrastructure, including 120 kilometres of subsea cables used to transport crude oil from ships to the facility.
Ruto said the project demonstrated what African governments, investors and financial institutions could achieve through collaboration.
He is expected to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Dangote East African Refinery in Lamu, Kenya, next week.
According to Ruto, the planned Kenyan refinery will be larger than the Nigerian facility and is expected to strengthen fuel supply and security while supporting industrialisation in Kenya and the wider region.
He said the project is also expected to create about 60,000 jobs.
Ruto added that the refinery would stimulate the development of related industries, including fertiliser, chemical and packaging production.
