Nigeria, US forge strategic deal to unlock solid minerals sector

In a bid to accelerate economic diversification and secure global supply chains, Nigeria and the United States have agreed to deepen their strategic partnership, focusing on attracting massive American investment into Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

The breakthrough came following a high-level bilateral meeting at the White House between a high-powered Nigerian delegation and senior U.S. officials.

The Nigerian delegation led the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake , alongside executives from the Nigeria Solid Minerals Company (NSMC), met with David Copley, Special Assistant to the U.S. President and Senior Director for Global Supply Chain at the U.S. National Security Council, and Diana London of the DCI Group.

According to statement by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in Abuja on Tuesday, discussions centered on expanding cooperation across the entire critical minerals value chain, including advanced geological exploration, modern mining techniques, local mineral processing, and refining.

The statement noted that the strategic push aligns directly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic roadmap aimed at shifting the nation away from oil dependency. 2027: Tinubu has courage to fix Nigeria, says Wike Tinubu’s reforms show focus on Nigeria’s future — Baze University don Tinubu invites China to partner Nigeria on marine economy development

“This high-level engagement is fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, prioritizing aggressive economic diversification, rapid industrialization, job creation, and the attraction of strategic foreign investment,” stated a spokesperson for the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.

With the global transition toward green energy intensifying, both nations emphasized the strategic necessity of building secure, resilient mineral supply chains.

“The talks reinforce a expanding U.S.-Nigeria partnership built on investment-driven cooperation,” the Ministry noted. “Our shared goal is promoting sustainable mineral development, expanding local value addition, and delivering long-term, shared economic prosperity for both nations.”

The collaboration is expected to pave the way for increased U.S. private sector equity, technical assistance, and technology transfer into Nigeria’s untapped mineral deposits.
