The Benue State House of Assembly, on Thursday, suspended the Chairman of Kwande Local Government Council, Vitalis Terhile Neji, for a period of three months.
The decision was taken during the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Alfred Emberga.
Earlier in the week, the House constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate the embattled chairman.
However, when he appeared before the committee, he was alleged to be unable to provide satisfactory clarifications.
The House, therefore, handed him a three-month suspension over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
The lawmakers said the action was to pave the way for a proper and unhindered investigation into the allegations.
Consequently, the House has directed the Vice Chairman of the Council, Mrs Nguungwan Rita Iortsor, to take over the affairs of the council pending the outcome of the investigation.
