150 golfers set for African Ambassadors tournament in Uyo

No fewer than 150 golfers, including diplomats, corporate leaders, government officials and representatives of agencies, are expected to be in attendance at the African Ambassadors Golf Tournament in Uyo.

The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), Ben Okoyen, said this at a news conference in Uyo on Thursday.

Okoyen said that the League of African Ambassadors Fundraising Golf Tournament would also feature the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, Godswill Akpabio and Hope Uzodimma, among other dignitaries.

He said that beyond the sporting contest, the tournament would provide an avenue for participants to network, exchange ideas and discuss issues around Africa’s development.

“The aspect of interaction is more than the game. We expect far more than 150 persons. We are expecting in the neighbourhood of 350 or thereabouts,” Okoyen said.

Okoyen added that the tournament goes beyond fundraising, describing it as part of a broader League of African Ambassadors initiative aimed at promoting solidarity, dialogue and advancement of the African course.

He added that preparations had been intensified for the opening ceremony, golf tournament, closing ceremony, fundraising and award dinner, as well as a showcase of Akwa Ibom’s rich cultural heritage.

“Business leaders, corporate bodies and government officials will take advantage of the platform golf provides to interact with the diplomatic community,” he said.

According to him, participants would arrive on Aug. 28, with the opening game scheduled for Aug. 29, and 30 for the finals. (NAN).
