Atlético Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has insisted the club will continue to support Julián Álvarez amid reported concrete interest from Barcelona and Arsenal in the Argentine forward.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared Gil Marín’s comments on X, with the Atlético chief making it clear that the Spanish club does not intend to allow outside pressure to dictate its sporting decisions.

“We are going to help Julián Álvarez and we are going to continue to take care of him so that he can give us his full potential, because we need him to continue competing among the greats of Europe,” Gil Marín said, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Atlético executive also suggested that Álvarez had not received the best guidance over his professional career in recent months.

“We must understand that Julián has not had the best advisors about his professional career in recent months,” he said, in comments to EFR.

Álvarez has been the subject of growing transfer speculation, with Barcelona and Arsenal reportedly showing concrete interest in the 26-year-old forward.

However, Gil Marín issued a strong warning to interested clubs, insisting that Atlético would remain in control of its sporting strategy.

“We can NOT allow other clubs to decide what we have to do, mark our sports strategy and disrespect us,” he said.

The Atlético CEO further suggested that attempts were being made to create divisions within the club over the situation.

“That is precisely what they are looking for: to divide us. It is clear that we are not as powerful as they are, but we have values,” Gil Marín said.

“We athletes are not going to allow them to contaminate us. Atleti is strong when we are all together.”

Álvarez joined Atlético Madrid from Manchester City in 2024 and has since established himself as a key figure in Diego Simeone’s side.

With Barcelona and Arsenal now reportedly monitoring his situation, Gil Marín’s comments underline Atlético’s determination to retain the forward and protect its long-term sporting plans.
