Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has warned political parties and their supporters against hate speech, provocation, intimidation and violence as the 2027 governorship campaign officially begins.
Yusuf, through his Director General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, gave the warning during a press conference marking the commencement of the 2027 governorship campaign in Kano.
The governor urged candidates and their supporters to make the campaign issue-based, saying political competition should be centred on ideas, policies, records and programmes rather than insults and character assassination.
He said, “Let us compete on the basis of ideas, policies, records and programmes rather than insults, intimidation or violence.”
Yusuf also warned against the destruction of property and any action capable of disturbing the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
He urged his supporters to remain disciplined, respect opposing views and refuse to be provoked into actions capable of undermining public order.
The governor equally charged media influencers, bloggers, conventional media practitioners and social media users to verify information before publication and avoid spreading fake news, rumours, inflammatory content and misinformation.
He called on security agencies to remain professional, impartial and vigilant throughout the campaign period, while urging political parties and campaign organisations to cooperate with them and comply with lawful requirements.
Yusuf assured residents that his administration would continue to provide services and pursue development irrespective of the political season.
He said Kano was bigger than any political party or individual, stressing that politicians would remain together as citizens after the election.
“Let us campaign with respect, compete with ideas, disagree without violence and put the interest of Kano above political differences,” he said.
The governor, however, concluded by praying for victory for APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
