Igbokoda Plane Crash: NAF Opens Condolence Register in Abuja

The Nigerian Air Force has opened a condolence register at its Conference Centre in Kado, Abuja, following the tragic accident involving NAF 931.

The NAF disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Tuesday, as it expressed appreciation for the outpouring of sympathy, prayers and solidarity following the crash.

The Air Force said the support from Nigerians and well-wishers at home and abroad had provided strength to the families, colleagues and loved ones of those involved in the tragedy.

“The Nigerian Air Force deeply appreciates the outpouring of sympathy, prayers and solidarity from Nigerians and well-wishers at home and abroad following the tragic accident involving NAF 931,” the statement said.

It added that the compassion and support were “a profound source of strength” to the families, colleagues and loved ones of those who served the country.

The NAF said the sacrifice of those involved in the accident “will forever be remembered.”

The condolence register was opened at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja, where members of the public and other well-wishers can pay tribute to the victims.

The accident involving NAF 931 occurred in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

TVC News Online reports that recovery of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft had been delayed by difficult swampy terrain and a lack of heavy-duty equipment needed to evacuate the wreckage.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Ohagwu, disclosed this on Tuesday, almost 24 hours after the crash, during an assessment visit to the site with senior officers of the command.

Ohagwu said security personnel and emergency responders were still recovering human remains and fragments of the aircraft from the crash site.

He said access to the location had been particularly difficult because of the surrounding creeks and mangrove forests.
