The Zamfara State Government has approved a 95 per cent increase in the salaries of health workers across the state.
The new salary structure took effect from September 7, 2026, and is benchmarked against the Federal Government’s approved health-sector salary structures, particularly the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
The Head of Civil Service, Shehu Baraya, disclosed this in a circular dated September 10, 2026, with reference number HS/Z/001/54/VOL.II.
The circular was addressed to the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries, heads of extra-ministerial departments, boards, commissions and parastatals, among others.
According to the circular, the salary review is part of reforms by the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to reposition the health sector and improve the welfare and working conditions of health personnel.
The government said the adjustment was intended to strengthen the health workforce and create a conducive environment for quality healthcare delivery.
It expressed optimism that the improved remuneration would enhance the wellbeing, motivation and morale of health workers, as well as improve productivity and efficiency in the sector.
The government, however, urged beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture with greater commitment, hard work, dedication and professionalism.
It directed health workers to maintain discipline, observe prescribed working hours and adhere strictly to public service rules, regulations and established work ethics.
“The government appreciates the continued commitment and sacrifices of Health Workers and looks forward to their renewed dedication towards building a stronger, more responsive and efficient health sector in Zamfara State,” the circular stated.
The government also directed heads of ministries, departments and agencies to ensure that affected personnel were informed of the salary review and that its objectives were fully supported.
The circular contains a revised CONHESS basic salary table covering various grades and steps, as well as hazard allowances for clinical and non-clinical health workers.
Under the hazard allowance schedule, clinical health workers on salary grades 1–5 are listed to receive N15,200, while non-clinical workers are allocated N14,250.
For grades 6–12, the listed hazard allowance is N30,400 for clinical workers and N28,500 for non-clinical workers.
For grades 13–15, clinical workers are allocated N32,300, while non-clinical workers are listed at N30,400.
