The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two suspects after intercepting 55 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during a joint security operation along the Anka–Bagega Road in Anka Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Monday during a stop-and-search operation conducted by a joint security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Community Protection Guard (CPG).
Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the operatives intercepted a Volkswagen Golf III with registration number Kogi MPA 92 AA, driven by Abubakar Rilwanu, a resident of Bagega in Anka LGA.
He said a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 55 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed in a polythene bag.

According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the ammunition belonged to another occupant of the vehicle, Rabiu Mohammed, from Jambako in Maradun Local Government Area.
The suspect reportedly confessed to investigators that he collected the ammunition from Dodori Village in Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and was transporting it to a man identified as Oliya, who is currently at large.
The police said both suspects are in custody and undergoing further investigation, while efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect and dismantle the criminal network behind the illegal movement of arms and ammunition.
Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, CP A. M. Bello, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition across the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing security agencies with credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property.
