Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are helping indigenous companies expand their operations and emerge as global brands.

Shettima made the remarks on Monday in Abuja when he received a delegation from fintech company Flutterwave, led by its Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Olugbenga Agboola, on a courtesy visit.

The Vice-President, according to a statement on Monday, September 7, by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Office of the Vice President, said companies such as Flutterwave, Moniepoint and Andela were leveraging the gains of the administration’s reforms to scale their businesses.

He assured the Flutterwave delegation of the Federal Government’s continued support, both within Nigeria and internationally.

“We have to support and promote our own. We have to make our companies stronger,” Shettima said.

The Vice-President also commended Flutterwave for building what he described as “one of Africa’s most compelling technology stories from Nigeria”.

According to him, a major strength of the company is its ability to develop solutions to challenges peculiar to the continent.

He described Flutterwave’s “ability to solve an African problem using an indigenous solution that addresses challenges related to digital payment for products and services, among others” as a significant part of its success story.

Earlier, Agboola told the Vice-President that Flutterwave was targeting substantial growth in the coming years as it seeks to strengthen its position in the payments and banking sector across Africa and globally.

The Flutterwave CEO thanked President Tinubu, Shettima and the Federal Government for the confidence placed in the company, describing it as “a strategic signal of how Nigeria is supporting Nigeria” and an important milestone for the fintech firm.

“Your Excellency, it’s my honour to be here today. Like I said, our goal is to partner with you and your team to reason how we can do more to advance the administration’s amazing economic agenda that we have seen working right now in the country. We want to be a part of that positive story,” Agboola said.

He reaffirmed the company’s Nigerian identity and its commitment to contributing to the country’s development.

“We are very much a Nigerian company. I’m very much Nigerian. Nigeria is our home. And everybody here, as you can see, they’re all Nigerians. Our goal is to ensure that we do our best to help move Nigeria forward,” he said.

Also present at the meeting was the Chief Executive Officer of Stanel Group, Stanley Uzochukwu, alongside other senior management staff of Flutterwave.
