The wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Lami Fintiri, in collaboration with the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, has provided cash, food and non-food items to 1,200 vulnerable persons in the state as part of efforts to restore hope and promote sustainable livelihoods.
The intervention formed part of activities marking the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum’s Tri-Annual Meeting holding in Yola, hosted by the Adamawa State First Lady and led by the wife of the Gombe State Governor, Hajiya Asmau Inuwa Yahaya.
Under the empowerment programme, 200 vulnerable persons received ₦100,000 each, amounting to ₦20 million, while another 1,000 people received food and non-food items to cushion the effects of economic hardship on their households.
Women groups drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State participated in the gathering, which also provided a platform for the Northern governors’ wives to strengthen collaboration on issues affecting women, children and vulnerable communities across the region.
Speaking at the event, Lami Fintiri said the intervention was designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to help beneficiaries rebuild their livelihoods and regain confidence in their ability to provide for their families.
The two-day meeting is expected to focus on critical social and economic issues affecting the North, particularly women and children, with emphasis on practical interventions, empowerment and stronger regional collaboration.
For the beneficiaries, the support comes at a time of rising economic pressure on families.
Beyond the immediate value of the cash and relief materials, the initiative underscores the growing need for interventions that combine social protection with sustainable livelihood opportunities.
As the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum continues its deliberations in Yola, the initiative puts a human face to the broader conversation on development in Northern Nigeria where empowering women and protecting vulnerable families remain critical to building resilient communities.
