The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast moderate rainfall and thunderstorms across several parts of Nigeria on Monday, August 31, 2026.
In a post on X, NiMet said its Daily Weather Outlook, valid from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, predicted isolated morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across parts of the northern states.
“Morning: Partly cloudy skies are expected, with chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over parts of Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba States,” the agency said.
NiMet also forecast afternoon and evening thunderstorms with moderate rainfall across the North-West and parts of Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states.
For the central states, the agency said cloudy conditions with chances of rainfall were expected in the morning over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue and Niger states.
“Afternoon/Evening: Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected over most parts of the Central States,” NiMet said.
In the South, moderate rainfall was forecast during the morning over parts of Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and the South-West.
“Afternoon/Evening: Moderate rainfall is expected over most parts of the Southern States,” the agency added.
NiMet warned that the rainfall could result in temporary water accumulation in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and rainfall due to reduced visibility and slippery roads,” it said.
The agency also advised the public to avoid open spaces and seek safe shelter during thunderstorms, while airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather briefings from NiMet for safe flight planning.
