EFCC Drags Businessman and Firm to Court Over N12.5bn Fraud

A Nigerian businessman, Adonu Kingsley Ifeanyi, alongside his corporate entity S Mobile Netzone Limited, has been brought before the Federal High Court in Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to answer to charges of N12.5 billion fraud.

The defendants were arraigned on Monday, November 2, 2026, before Justice J. Bogoro at the Ikoyi division of the court on a five-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

According to the commission, the alleged offences involved N12,556,837,842, which the defendants reportedly obtained through various transactions between 2020 and 2022.

One of the charges alleged that Ifeanyi took possession of N1,248,237,842 through an account belonging to S Mobile Netzone Limited between June 4, 2021, and October 31, 2022.

The charge stated that the money was allegedly proceeds of unlawful activities involving obtaining by false pretence.

Another count accused the defendant of receiving N6,791,500,000 through the company’s bank account between January 15, 2020, and April 14, 2022.

The EFCC alleged that the funds were proceeds of stealing, contrary to Section 15(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011, as amended, and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act.

The charge partly reads: “That you Adonu Kingsley Ifeanyi between 15th January, 2020 and 14th April 2022, in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court did take possession of the total sum of N6,791,500,000.00 … through a bank account with account name ‘S. Mobile Netzone Limited’ which sum you knew formed part of the proceeds of your unlawful activity to wit: stealing.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read to them.

Justice Bogoro granted the prosecution’s application and admitted the defendants to bail on the same terms and conditions earlier granted by Justice C.J. Aneke on July 8, 2025.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until February 11, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
