The Federal Government has restated its dedication to deepening economic ties with Germany, placing special focus on driving investments, building energy partnerships, and fulfilling existing bilateral accords.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, stated this on Monday during a meeting with the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Stefan Rössel, at the ministry in Abuja.

Bagudu welcomed the ambassador and his delegation, expressing Nigeria’s appreciation for Germany’s longstanding partnership and support for the country’s economic reform programme.

He recalled that Nigeria was implementing major economic reforms when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the country, noting that international partnerships were important to sustaining the reform process.

Earlier, Rössel described relations between Nigeria and Germany as strong and longstanding, expressing confidence that the partnership would help both countries navigate an increasingly complex global environment.

He noted that shifting strategic, political and economic conditions presented challenges but said the existing relationship between the two countries provided a solid foundation for continued cooperation.

The ambassador expressed optimism about sustaining mutually beneficial engagement between both countries in the years ahead.

In her remarks, the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, congratulated Rössel on his appointment and welcomed him to Nigeria.
