The Jigawa State Government has pledged to provide all necessary support and funding to ensure the completion of the new Dutse Emir’s Palace within the stipulated 18-month timeframe.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, stated this while representing Governor Umar Namadi at the foundation-laying ceremony of the palace in Dutse.
He described the project as a historic and significant development, saying it represented the fulfilment of a promise made by the governor to the Emir and people of Dutse Emirate.
“His Excellency the Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has promised to construct this palace, and today we are witnessing the fulfilment of that promise,” he said.
The SSG assured the Emir of Dutse, the people of the emirate and the people of Jigawa State that the government would deploy its full weight to ensure the successful completion of the project.
“As we said, this is a very significant project. It is not only for His Royal Highness; it is a place that we will all be proud of at the end of the day,” he added.
Bala also urged the contractor to live up to expectations and adhere to the 18-month completion deadline.
He disclosed that the first phase of the project, which comprises several structures, had a contract value of approximately N2.6 billion.
He said the palace project would further enhance the status of Dutse and become a source of pride for residents and visitors.
The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sunusi, described the palace as a highly significant project that would serve as a symbol of Jigawa State and a source of pride for its people.
The Emir said he had looked forward to the construction of a modern palace for nearly three decades.
“This is a very big project, which I have been looking forward to for over 27 years, looking to about 30 years now. But as God has it, this is the right time,” he said.
He added that the project was not only important to Dutse Emirate but to every indigene of Jigawa State. “It is a very big project for us, memorable,” the Emir said.
On the fate of the existing palace, the Emir said it would continue to serve as a venue for receiving guests and dignitaries.
He explained that the old palace was a historical landmark that preserved the culture and history of the emirate.
“It is still there. I will still be receiving guests at the old palace.
“If you really want to impress people, I think the old palace is the best place that you can take them. It will impress them because the history is there, the culture is there, and nothing beats the old palace,” he added.
The representative of Newpro Quants Consultant (NQC) Limited, Engr. Abubakar Kaila, assured the state government that the contractor was committed to completing the project within the agreed timeframe.
He said the contractor had already received mobilisation from the government and commenced work at the site.
Engr. Kaila added that the company had established a programme of work and would adhere to it to ensure that the project was completed on schedule.
“We are in time with our programme because we have already established a programme of work, and we intend to abide by it,” he said.
