All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders and grassroots politicians in Kwara Central have dismissed the defection of Senator Saliu Mustapha from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the move will not weaken their support for the APC or Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Speaking at a press conference, Gambari Ward One Councillor, Ibrahim Salah, and the APC Ward Chairmen’s Leader, Gobir Abdullahi, attributed their continued support for the party to what they described as the visible impact of the AbdulRazaq administration across the senatorial district.
The stakeholders passed a vote of confidence in Governor AbdulRazaq and urged him to sustain the pace of development, complete ongoing projects and expand empowerment initiatives for youths and women.
They also pledged their support for the APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Salihu Danladi, and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gobir, who spoke on behalf of the 51 APC ward chairmen in Kwara Central, described Senator Mustapha’s defection as a personal political decision.
He argued that Mustapha’s victory in the 2023 election was achieved through the collective efforts of the APC, the governor and grassroots party members, rather than the efforts of any individual.
The stakeholders urged voters to remain focused on development and grassroots mobilisation, insisting that the APC remains strong in Kwara Central.
They also called on the electorate not to be distracted by what Gobir described as the political movement of individuals pursuing personal interests.
