YOLA — Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved an upward review of pensions for retired civil servants, directing that no pensioner in the state should receive less than ₦50,000 as monthly pension beginning from next month.
The governor made the announcement on Friday while featuring on the live entertainment programme, “Taba Kidi Taba Karatu,” aired on the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Yola.
Fintiri described as unacceptable a situation where some retirees received less than ₦10,000 monthly pension, stressing that such payments no longer reflected the sacrifices made by workers who dedicated their productive years to the service of the state.
He said the pension increase was part of his administration’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of both serving and retired civil servants, noting that workers deserve to retire with dignity after years of meritorious service.

According to the governor, his administration has consistently prioritised workers’ welfare through prompt payment of salaries, implementation of promotions, recruitment of qualified personnel and the enhancement of pension benefits for retirees.
He stated that the pension review represented another promise fulfilled by his government and reaffirmed his commitment to rewarding the trust reposed in him by the people with people-centred policies and impactful development projects.
Fintiri also assured residents that all ongoing projects initiated by his administration would be completed before the end of his tenure.
He listed some of the flagship projects to include the International Conference Hall, the modern shopping complex, the NYSC Orientation Camp, the Mother and Child Hospital, road construction projects, educational infrastructure and other strategic investments across the state.
During his visit to the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, the governor inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the station’s studios as well as the installation of newly acquired FM and AM transmitters. He was conducted round the facility by the supervising engineer, Mr. Peter.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, Fintiri directed the contractor to ensure the timely completion of the remaining installations to enable the station expand its transmission coverage and improve service delivery across the state.
Speaking on the newly inaugurated local government council chairmen, the governor urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering meaningful development projects and quality services at the grassroots.
He reminded them that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and must therefore remain responsive to their needs and aspirations.
On education, Fintiri said his administration had continued to strengthen the sector through the recruitment of qualified teachers, prompt payment of salaries, renovation of schools and the provision of a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The governor further disclosed that the dualisation of the Jimeta Bypass would commence in October, adding that his administration was also making arrangements to deliver 25 megawatts of solar power to boost electricity supply and support economic growth in the state.
On security, Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and stability, noting that the government would continue to collaborate with security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
He commended security personnel for their dedication and said the creation of new chiefdoms had contributed to improved local administration and enhanced security in many communities.
According to the governor, several communities previously affected by insecurity had recorded remarkable improvements due to sustained government interventions, assuring residents that efforts to consolidate the gains achieved would continue.
Fintiri also called on the people of Adamawa State to protect public infrastructure, support government programmes and remain law-abiding.
He appealed to residents to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence that the party would secure future electoral victories based on its record of performance and commitment to good governance.
