The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction of vehicular movement across the Ondo South Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s bye-election, assuring residents of adequate security before, during and after the exercise.
The restriction, according to the Command, will take effect from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday as part of measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, during a press briefing in Akure on Friday said security personnel have been strategically deployed across the senatorial district to safeguard polling units, collation centres, electoral offices and other vulnerable locations.

“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public, particularly residents of the Ondo South Senatorial District, that there will be a restriction of vehicular movement from 0600hrs to 1800hrs on Saturday, 20th June, 2026, in line with security arrangements put in place for the conduct of the Ondo South Senatorial District By-Election.”

The police explained that the restriction is intended to guarantee a peaceful atmosphere for voters and electoral officials while protecting lives and property throughout the election period.
Consequently, all forms of vehicular movement and transportation on waterways within the affected areas will be prohibited during the specified period, except for accredited officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers, accredited journalists, emergency service providers and other individuals authorised by law to perform election-related duties.
The Command stated that security operatives would maintain surveillance across both land and waterways to prevent unauthorised movements capable of compromising the electoral process.
“The Command warns that unauthorised movement of vehicles, boats, or any activity capable of disrupting the electoral process will not be tolerated,” the police said.
CP Ohagwu also cautioned political actors, their supporters and members of the public against engaging in violence, voter intimidation, vote-buying, thuggery or any other unlawful conduct capable of undermining the integrity of the election.
“Anyone found violating electoral laws or engaging in activities likely to cause a breach of peace will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he warned.
The Commissioner of Police further assured residents that the Command has intensified intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and coordinated operations with other security agencies to guarantee a secure environment before, during and after the bye-election.
He reiterated the commitment of the Police Command to ensuring that the election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, safety and public confidence.
“The Ondo State Police Command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that the Ondo South Senatorial District By-Election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and public confidence,” he added.
