APC Primary Court Cases Won’t Harm 2027 Polls, Says Abejide

Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kogi State, has brushed aside worries that ongoing legal challenges stemming from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections could derail the ruling party’s electoral prospects in 2027.

Abejide said the disputes involving aggrieved aspirants would not undermine the party’s electoral prospects, expressing confidence that the APC would remain united ahead of the polls.

He made the remarks during an interview on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines on Monday, November 2.

According to the lawmaker, cases relating to the party’s primary elections are currently before the courts, and their outcomes would not affect the APC’s chances in the next election.

He said, “I believe, you know, this party is larger than anything. So anybody that is in court now as a result of not making its candidate, I believe tomorrow is there for him or her.”

Abejide urged aggrieved party members to explore dialogue rather than allow their grievances to undermine their relationship with the party.

He warned that aspirants who continued to pursue disputes at the expense of party unity could risk losing future political opportunities.

“So, to me, only two cases are in court and cannot affect the election of APC. This I know,” he added.

The lawmaker also spoke about his political realignment, saying his constituents had supported his decision to move from the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling party.

He said there had been calls from his supporters for him to join the political mainstream, adding that many of them were no longer comfortable with his continued stay in the opposition.

“Very, very happy. In fact, even before I came, there was so much clamour that I should please join the mainstream,” Abejide said when asked whether his constituents supported his political move.
