The distinguished Yoruba elder statesman and head of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, has passed away at the age of 100.
Fasoranti’s death was confirmed on Tuesday in Akure, Ondo State, by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in a condolence statement issued on behalf of the state government.
The governor described the late Afenifere leader as a patriarch whose life was marked by wisdom, integrity and selfless service to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
Aiyedatiwa said Fasoranti’s contributions to public affairs, as well as his counsel and principled positions on justice and good governance, would be greatly missed.
He added that the elder statesman had left an enduring legacy of honour and service that would continue to inspire future generations.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Ondo State, I commiserate with the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire State over this great loss,” the governor said.
Aiyedatiwa also prayed for the peaceful repose of Fasoranti’s soul.
