American artist Chris Brown is scheduled to receive his sentence at Southwark Crown Court in connection with an assault on music producer Abe Diaw at a nightclub in London during February 2023.
Brown, 37, pleaded guilty to affray in July after prosecutors accused him of carrying out what they described as “a vicious and unprovoked attack”. He had been due to stand trial on more serious charges, which he denied, but those charges were later dropped.
Police said CCTV footage showed Brown hitting Diaw on the head several times with a glass bottle. Diaw suffered head and knee injuries and required hospital treatment.
The dropped charges included assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
Brown’s vocal coach, rapper Omololu Akinlolu, 40, also pleaded guilty to affray over the incident. The assault and attempted grievous bodily harm charges against him were dropped.
The attack took place at a club in Mayfair, London, on 19 February 2023.
Affray involves using or threatening violence in a way that causes another person to fear for their safety. The offence carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
The court is expected to deliver its sentencing remarks, which will be available to watch live.
