A 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, has allegedly struck her co-wife to death with a pestle at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi metropolis.
The Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the arrest of the suspect in a statement issued on Monday in Bauchi.
Habib said that on September 27, 2026, at about 4:05pm, the C-Division, Bauchi, received credible information about a domestic incident involving two co-wives residing in the same household belonging to their husband.
Habib explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, Hauwa’u Haruna, 33, allegedly, while experiencing hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, Jamila Adamu, 43, on the forehead, causing her to fall unconscious.
He said detectives attached to the C-Division immediately mobilised to the scene, where the incident was documented, while the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.
According to him, Jamila was certified dead by a medical doctor, while her corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the incident was recovered as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The CP condoled with the bereaved family and cautioned the public against domestic violence, while advising families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members experiencing mental health challenges.
