The Board of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) has unanimously passed a vote of confidence on its President, Dr Musa Oshodi, following Enku Ekuta’s historic bronze medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The resolution was adopted on Monday, August 18, 2026, during the federation’s statutory meeting held online. The motion was moved by the federation’s Vice-President 3 and Technical Director, Omo Oba Segun Gbayi.
It will be recalled that Ekuta’s bronze in the women’s -63kg category ended Nigeria’s 24-year wait for a Commonwealth Games judo medal, with the country’s previous medal won by Alice Livinus at Manchester 2002.
In a communique, the board attributed the breakthrough to what it described as deliberate programmes and policies implemented under Oshodi’s leadership.
It specifically cited transparent Commonwealth Games trials in Abuja, improved training camps, international exposure and enhanced athlete welfare as key components of the federation’s development strategy.
The board also highlighted Nigeria’s consistent performances at the African Judo Championships, including Ekuta’s gold medal in 2020 and silver in 2019.
“Dr. Oshodi has repositioned Nigerian Judo and taken it to enviable heights through purposeful leadership, accountability, and athlete-centered programs. The Commonwealth medal is proof that our system is working,” the board stated.
The federation described Ekuta’s achievement as “symbolic” and urged increased investment in grassroots development and athlete welfare to sustain the momentum.
The NJF said it would build on the progress ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games, African Games and other international competitions.
