The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has visited flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja, as concerns mount over the increasing incidence of flooding across the nation’s capital.
The inspection comes days after heavy rainfall triggered flooding in several parts of Abuja, with residents reporting submerged vehicles, inundated properties and disruption to movement in affected communities.
The minister’s visit to Maitama is part of an inspection of vulnerable locations and major infrastructure projects in the capital, including the Southern Parkway and ISEX corridors.
The Minister is expected to assess the immediate causes of flooding in the affected area and determine interventions required to prevent a recurrence.
