The European football governing body, UEFA, has declared that a moment of silence will be observed across all its fixtures this week to pay tribute to CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, who has passed away at the age of 30.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin expressed sadness over the striker’s death, saying the football community was struggling to find words to describe the loss.
De Miguel, who played for several clubs in Spain’s lower leagues, helped Tenerife secure promotion to the Segunda División last season.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 3, UEFA said European and Spanish football were mourning the death of the forward.
“We are heartbroken by the death of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” Čeferin said.
“We have searched for words and found only silence. In that silence, our hearts and thoughts are with his family, his teammates, everyone at CD Tenerife, and all those who mourn this tragic loss.”
CD Tenerife also confirmed the player’s death in a statement, expressing grief over the loss and extending its condolences to his family.
“Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, we at CD Tenerife announce the tragic passing, on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at 8.00 am, of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” the statement read.
“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this overwhelming sense of sadness. We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, and with the entire Tenerife football community, who today mourn this cruel turn of events.”
The club added that the player’s family had expressed appreciation for the support received and appealed for privacy during the difficult period.
“The family of Jesús de Miguel would like to thank everyone for their expressions of support and, from the bottom of their hearts, ask that their privacy be respected at this terrible time,” it said.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) also paid tribute to the late forward, describing his death as a loss to Spanish football.
“Spanish football mourns the loss of Jesús de Miguel. Devastated by the sad news, from the RFEF we wish to express our deepest sorrow for his passing today,” the federation said.
