Troops gun down 2 terrorists, rescue construction workers in Katsina, Kebbi

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate terrorist attacks in Katsina and Kebbi states, killing two terrorists, rescuing abducted construction workers and recovering arms and operational motorcycles.

The troops also supported the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a joint operation that led to the seizure of illicit drugs in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 responded to reported terrorist activities in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina on August 14.

He said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, neutralising two of them while others fled the area.

He added that the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle and a magazine from the terrorists.

In a separate operation under Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV in southern Kebbi, troops responded to a distress call following the abduction of construction workers at Tsatsunbe village.

Danja said the rapid deployment of troops and subsequent engagement forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee, leaving behind three motorcycles.

“All construction workers were successfully rescued and safely returned to their camp,” he said.

He added that one of the workers sustained an injury during the incident and was evacuated to a military medical facility, where he is receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, troops in Katsina State also assisted operatives of the NDLEA, Malumfashi Area Command, during a raid on a suspected drug peddler’s hideout in Gozaki village, Kafur LGA.

The operation resulted in the recovery of significant quantities of illicit drugs, which were handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action.

The Theatre Command said the latest operations demonstrated the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect communities, safeguard economic activities and deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.

It said the command would continue to pursue criminal elements while protecting vulnerable communities and creating an environment where residents could carry out their legitimate activities without fear.
