Gombe Achieves 80 Points in Latest National Open Governance Assessment

The Gombe State Government has attained an 80-point rating in the recent national subnational governance review, earning recognition among states demonstrating significant advancements in open government execution, citizen engagement, and participatory leadership.

A statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director General of Press Affair to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, said the recognition was contained in the third-quarter 2026 Subnational Status Ranking released by the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Nigeria.

According to him, the ranking placed Gombe among states recording notable progress in the implementation of open government principles.

“The assessment measures key indicators, including the presence of a State Action Plan (SAP), multi-stakeholder forums, a functional secretariat, online platforms and evidence of high-level political commitment.

“The performance of Gombe reflects Governor Yahaya’s continued efforts to strengthen institutional mechanisms that promote citizen participation, openness, accountability and inclusive governance.

“It also underscores the commitment of the administration to creating an enabling environment for citizens and stakeholders to participate meaningfully in governance and development processes,” part of the state read.

Misilli added that the recognition comes against the backdrop of the Inuwa Yahaya administration’s sustained efforts to strengthen governance institutions, deepen stakeholder engagement and promote transparency in the implementation of government policies and programmes.

“By recording 80 points, Gombe is placed among the states demonstrating progress in institutionalising key components of the open-government framework, alongside other subnational governments recognised in the assessment.

“Building on this progress, the administration of Governor Yahaya remains committed to strengthening the state’s governance structures, expanding citizen participation and ensuring that government remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people,” he added.
