Operatives of he FCT Police Command have arrested four suspects who allegedly specialised in robbing commercial drivers, particularly Bolt and Uber drivers of their vehicles.
CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, who disclosed this to newsmnen at the command’s headquarters on Thursday, said the arrest followed credible intelligence at the disposal of the operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the command who trailed and arrested the four suspects.
He identified the suspects as Ibrahim Ismail, Ahmad Umar, Riskwa Shehu and Umar Abubakar.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects operate by posing as regular passengers, booking commercial vehicles through e-ride hailing platforms before attacking the drivers, dispossessing them of their vehicles and other valuables.
According to him, the suspects were arrested with two vehicles; an ash-colored Toyota Rav 4 vehicle with registration number YAB 240 DL and a grey colored Honda Civic Vehicle, with registration Number ABC 72 JP.
He said the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
“And I want to inform you that the command in separate operations, has recovered five vehicles stolen within the FCT across different parts of the country.
He said while some of the vehicles have been processed and released to their rightful owners, others are still at the command yet to be claimed by their owners.
