On The Highway Africa Marks 30 Years of Journalism

JCN Consulting and the transport industry publication On The Highway Africa are gearing up to celebrate three decades of dedicated highway reporting through a special legacy lecture and anniversary event scheduled for November 3, 2026.

Tagged “JCN @ 30 (1996–2026): 30 Years On The Highway,” the event will hold at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ikeja, Lagos, beginning at 9 a.m.

The celebration is expected to bring together key stakeholders from the transport, automotive, road safety, security, logistics, government and corporate sectors to reflect on three decades of highway journalism and examine the future of safe and sustainable mobility in Nigeria and Africa.

The anniversary lecture will address critical issues affecting the highway sector, including road infrastructure, traffic congestion, road safety, emergency rescue services and Nigeria’s transition towards Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered mobility.

The organisers have proposed two themes for the anniversary: “30 Years On The Highway: Safety, Security and Sustainability – From Bad Roads to CNG Revolution” and “The Nigerian Highway in 2026: Roads, Roils & Rescue – Auditing Pain, Progress and the Pathway to Safe Mobility.”

As part of the celebration, a special legacy edition of the magazine will be published to document three decades of highway journalism and highlight the publication’s contributions to road safety advocacy, public awareness and developments in the transport industry.

Over the past 30 years, On The Highway Africa has consistently reported on road conditions, traffic congestion and the experiences of road users, while advocating improved road safety and documenting major developments in Nigeria’s highway and transport sectors.

The publication has also broadened its coverage to include emerging conversations around Nigeria’s CNG revolution and the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions.

Speaking ahead of the anniversary, the Publisher and Chief Executive of JCN Consulting, Mrs Julie Chi-Nwaoha, described the milestone as an opportunity to recognise the stakeholders, readers, partners and road users whose support has sustained the brand over the years.

“This is not just about me; it is about every road user, every stakeholder, every reader who has believed in our brand. Thirty years on the highway is by God’s grace and the support of great people who believe in me,” she said.

Chi-Nwaoha added that the anniversary would provide an opportunity to celebrate the organisation’s achievements, reflect on its journey and chart a course for the future of safe and sustainable mobility in Nigeria.

The management disclosed that media partners, sponsors and well-wishers had begun indicating interest in supporting the historic celebration.

The organisers are welcoming further support from corporate organisations, industry stakeholders, media partners and individuals interested in advancing road safety, highway development and sustainable transportation.

The anniversary is expected to provide a platform for meaningful conversations on Nigeria’s highway development priorities, road safety challenges and the collective responsibility of stakeholders in building safer and more efficient transportation systems.

The event marks a significant milestone in the history of On The Highway Africa, celebrating three decades of journalism, advocacy and engagement with highway issues across Nigeria and Africa.
