The Nigerian Embassy in Doha has begun producing and returning passports to applicants within about two weeks of biometric capture, in a development that could reduce the waiting period for Nigerians seeking passport services in Qatar.
The embassy achieved the turnaround during its recent passport intervention exercise, held from August 11 to 21, 2026, which attracted 751 Nigerians.
Of the applicants, 441 applied for five-year passports, while 310 opted for the 10-year validity period.
Distribution of the newly produced passports commenced on September 18, less than a month after the intervention exercise.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the completion and return of passports within about two weeks of biometric capture demonstrated the embassy’s commitment to improving service delivery.
“This is a significant milestone for our Embassy and, most importantly, for Nigerians living in Qatar,” Yakubu said.
“The fact that passports are now being completed and returned within about two weeks of capture demonstrates our commitment to improving service delivery and responding to the needs of our community,” he said.
The ambassador said the embassy recognised the importance of passports to Nigerians, particularly for international travel, employment, residency and other official requirements.
“We will continue to work to ensure that Nigerians receive the services they need in a timely and transparent manner,” he said.
The latest development followed the intervention exercise organised to provide passport services to Nigerians resident in Qatar.
The exercise brought together applicants requiring new passports or renewal services, with the embassy subsequently commencing the distribution of documents produced from the biometric captures.
The two-week turnaround represents the key outcome of the latest intervention, with the embassy saying it remains committed to improving the timeliness of consular services for Nigerians in Qatar.
