The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has enhanced its operational capabilities by formally taking delivery of three AgustaWestland A109 Trekker Type B helicopters, which are designed to boost air mobility, aerial surveillance, and internal security missions.
The helicopters, designated NAF 586, NAF 587 and NAF 588, were formally accepted at the 355 Rotary Wing, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the NAF, the aircraft were reassembled in-house by its technicians in collaboration with technical partners from AgustaWestland, demonstrating the Service’s growing technical expertise and capacity to sustain its fleet.
Air Commodore E. Akintunde, Commander of the 643 Equipment Supply Depot, represented the Chief of Logistics at NAF Headquarters during the acceptance ceremony.
The development forms part of the Service’s broader efforts to modernise its fleet, improve aircraft availability and strengthen operational readiness under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
The Air Force said the helicopters would contribute to joint military operations and national security by enhancing its capacity to conduct air mobility, surveillance and internal security missions.
It reaffirmed its commitment to developing a capable, responsive and mission-ready force dedicated to protecting Nigerians.
