The National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre, operating under the Office of the National Security Adviser, secured the Cybersecurity Initiative of the Year accolade during the International Cybersecurity Conference 2026 held in Abuja.
The award recognises the Centre’s contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s national cybersecurity response through improved coordination among government agencies, security institutions, private-sector operators and international partners.
The NCCC facilitates intelligence and information sharing, promotes collaboration among relevant stakeholders and supports coordinated responses to cyber incidents to protect Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.
In addition to the Centre’s recognition, its National Coordinator, Ahmad Sa’ad Abubakar, received two individual honours: the Cybersecurity Leadership Award and the Cybersecurity Lifetime Achievement Award.
Abubakar’s contributions to Nigeria’s cybersecurity framework include helping develop the country’s first National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy in 2014, contributing to the Cybercrimes Act of 2015 and establishing the NCCC as a national institution in 2023.
He also contributed to advancing the legal framework for electronic evidence under Section 84 of the Evidence Act 2011.
While dedicating the awards to the Centre’s personnel and its national and international partners, Abubakar emphasised that cybersecurity remains a shared responsibility requiring sustained collaboration among stakeholders.
The Centre acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in advancing Nigeria’s cybersecurity objectives.
