Drawing attention through an official announcement on the Lagos State Government Facebook page, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has encouraged citizens to utilize its dedicated toll-free line at 080 0005 2726 to voice consumer concerns, alongside email correspondence and active handles across Facebook, Instagram, and X.
The General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, said the toll-free line provides consumers with a direct and accessible channel to report violations, seek guidance and obtain timely intervention.
Solebo urged residents not to remain silent or rely solely on social media when faced with consumer-related violations, stressing the importance of formally reporting complaints to the agency.
The LASCOPA boss also advised residents to verify product details, prices, sellers and terms and conditions before making payments, particularly when shopping online.
He urged consumers to carefully examine product labels for the manufacturer’s information, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers, ingredients and usage instructions.
“Timely, credible complaints help us detect violations and take enforcement action. Consumer protection is a shared responsibility, government, businesses and consumers,” he said.
Solebo called on Lagos residents to remain vigilant and actively participate in protecting the marketplace, urging them: “If you see it, question it. If you suspect it, report it. Tell it to LASCOPA.”
What You Should Know
LASCOPA has made it much easier for residents in Lagos to fight back against unscrupulous traders by introducing a direct, toll-free hotline and online reporting channels. Instead of staying quiet or only complaining on social media, consumers can now reach out directly to the agency when they encounter expired, fake, or substandard products.
- Positive Impact: Provides residents with a fast, free, and direct channel to seek official intervention, protect their health, and hold dishonest merchants accountable.
- Potential Concerns: Relies heavily on public vigilance and timely reporting to catch violators, meaning consumers must remain proactive in checking expiration dates and product details themselves.
