The political tension within the All Progressives Congress across the Imo West Senatorial District has escalated after a dozen local council chairmen and key party stakeholders formally dismissed a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that named former Governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s official senatorial candidate.
The stakeholders, who insist that Governor Hope Uzodimma emerged through the party’s primaries, have described the judgment as a miscarriage of justice, warning of its possible implications for the party.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, the State APC Chairman, Austin Onyedebelu, maintained that Governor Hope Uzodimma was overwhelmingly voted for during the party’s senatorial primaries.
The stakeholders questioned the basis of the court’s decision, insisting that it did not reflect the outcome of the party’s primary election.
They further expressed concern that the judgment could deepen divisions within the party and potentially affect its electoral prospects.
