The Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has nullified the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election that produced Ali Isa as the party’s candidate for the Billiri/Balanga Federal Constituency in the 2027 election.
Justice Ibrahim Eneabo ruled that a person seeking to contest for the ticket of a political party must have been a registered member of the party for at least 21 days before its primary election.
The court consequently ordered the APC to conduct a fresh primary election for the federal constituency within 30 days.
The ruling comes about a week after another court nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary that produced former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as the party’s governorship candidate in Gombe State.
The PDP has since conducted another primary, which again produced Pantami as its candidate.
The latest ruling involving the APC adds another legal development to the preparations for the 2027 elections in Gombe State, with the affected parties and candidates facing the implications of the court decisions.
The APC is expected to comply with the order for a fresh primary within the stipulated 30-day period.
