Residents of Abuja have expressed concern over flooding in parts of the Federal Capital Territory following a heavy downpour, with social media users sharing images and videos showing floodwaters in some areas.
The flooding was reported in parts of Wuse 2, with motorists and residents reportedly affected as water accumulated on roads and surrounding areas.
Reacting to the development on social media, Emma Ik Umeh said parts of Wuse 2 were flooded after the heavy rainfall, claiming that some expensive vehicles were submerged in the floodwaters.
“I warned that Abuja will soon start experiencing flooding, because Wike has sold off green areas in Abuja,” he said.
Another user, Inalegwu, described the situation as worrying and called on the FCT administration to take urgent action in areas vulnerable to flooding.
“THIS IS NOT LAGOS! Heavy downpour in Abuja yesterday left parts of Delight Event Centre, Gudu, flooded. The bridge from Gaduwa to Durumi was also heavily flooded yesterday, and motorists were stranded. The FCT management should act fast on areas prone to flooding in the capital,” he said.
Obiasogu David also shared concerns over the extent of the flooding, posting that an event centre had been completely submerged after the downpour.
“An event centre completely submerged by flood in Abuja after a heavy downpour. This is scary!” he said.
The reactions came amid growing concerns over the impact of heavy rainfall and drainage challenges in parts of the nation’s capital.
At the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, or other relevant authorities regarding the flooding in the affected areas.
