The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stepped in to resolve the deepening leadership crisis fracturing its Anambra State chapter, convening a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja to restore order ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The peace talks, held on Thursday, were spearheaded by the party’s National Deputy Chairman (South), Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye, who also heads the APC Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee set up to investigate the Anambra turmoil.
Addressing the gathering, Nwoye invoked the party’s symbol to urge unity among warring factions.
“Let every member remember that the broom is meaningful only when its strands are bound together. A scattered broom cannot sweep; a divided party cannot win,” Nwoye warned.
Nwoye outlined the committee’s mandate, which includes pinpointing both the immediate and underlying triggers of the rift, engaging key figures, and delivering recommendations for lasting peace.
He listed several critical grievances fueling the division to the alleged removal of democratically elected party officials across various levels, allegations that primary election winners were stripped of their tickets and replaced with non-participants as well as the summary expulsion of party leaders and members without due process or fair hearing.
Also speaking at the forum, the APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Tolu Bankole, urged stakeholders to settle their disputes swiftly, warning that Anambra could not afford to repeat past electoral missteps.
Bankole cited the contributions of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, suggesting that the APC might already hold the Anambra governorship had the party unified behind Ukachukwu after his initial emergence.
