Two vigilantes killed in fresh Plateau attack

Gunmen on Wednesday night killed two vigilante members in the Rim community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims were said to have been attacked at about 11 p.m., while keeping vigil alongside other members of the community.

A resident of the community, Lazarus Bot, who confirmed the incident, said the attackers stormed the community and opened fire on the vigilante members.

“The gunmen came into the community at about 11 p.m. and opened fire on the vigilante members who were keeping watch to protect the community. Sadly, two persons from the same family were killed during the attack,” he said.

Also confirming the incident on Thursday, the spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM) Rwang Tengwong, condemned the attack, describing the killings as unfortunate.

Tengwong called on security agencies to go after the attackers and ensure they are brought to justice.

He expressed concern over the renewed attacks on communities in Riyom Local Government Area, urging security operatives to take proactive measures to protect lives and property.

He gave the names of the victims as Joel Bwede, 39, and Justice Dadong (22).

When contacted on the development, spokesperson of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycap Oteh, did not respond to inquiry from our correspondent.
