President Bola Tinubu has granted an 18-month tenure extension to the leaders overseeing the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The extension means the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, will serve until June 30, 2028.
The development was announced in a statement on Monday, October 19, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The statement partly reads: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 18-month tenure extensions for Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.”
According to the statement, the approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both services and give the relevant board sufficient time to appoint successors.
President Tinubu commended the two service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership and charged them to consolidate the gains.
The statement reads in part: “President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains.”

Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
