Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

Shettima’s trip was disclosed in a statement on Saturday, August 29, by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

The summit is expected to focus on strategies for resolving conflicts and promoting lasting peace and stability across Africa.

According to the statement, Shettima will join other African leaders and key stakeholders to deliberate on practical approaches to addressing regional security challenges and strengthening continental efforts towards conflict prevention and resolution.

Nigeria is expected to contribute to discussions on strengthening mechanisms for preventing conflicts, resolving disputes and sustaining peace, given its longstanding role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution across the continent.

The Vice President, who is accompanied by senior defence and security officials, will deliver Tinubu’s address at the summit, outlining Nigeria’s position on the issues under consideration.

The statement said Shettima would also reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace and stability across Africa during the high-level meeting.

He is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Angola.
