The Nigeria Police Force says the protection of voters will be a major priority in the 2027 general elections.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, gave the assurance while unveiling a six-point security roadmap for the elections.
Disu spoke at the opening of the 6th Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers held at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre, Owerri, Imo State.
He directed Police commanders across the country to uphold neutrality, accountability and preparedness in the discharge of their responsibilities before, during and after the elections.
According to the IGP, early mapping and identification of potential electoral flashpoints will be critical to preventing violence and other security threats during the polls.
He also urged political actors to focus on competing with progressive ideas and policies rather than allowing their supporters to engage in thuggery, vote-buying and other electoral offences.
Disu said the police would continue to work towards creating a secure environment that would enable citizens to exercise their right to vote freely and peacefully.
