The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the party’s State Working Committee in Kano, with immediate effect. The decision was contained in a letter dated September 24, 2026, signed by PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, and addressed to the state chairman. The letter explained that the dissolution followed consultations by the national leadership and clarified that only the state executive was affected, while ward and local government committees remained intact. “The entire PDP State Working Committee (SWC) for Kano State chaired by Dr Bello Gambo Bichi is hereby dissolved with effect from the date of this letter,” the letter stated.
It added that the North-West Caretaker Committee would henceforth oversee the affairs of the Kano chapter until a new executive is elected. Reacting to the development, the removed chairman, Dr Bello Gambo Bichi, said he accepted the decision as his sacrifice for the unity of the party. He explained that the dissolution was part of the reconciliation process in the state, noting that former governorship candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu, had also stepped aside for Muhammad Sani Abacha. According to him, one of Dalhatu’s conditions was the dissolution of the state executive, which he agreed to in order to strengthen the PDP in Kano. Bichi said the north west working committee of the party will now oversee the Kano activities untill a caretaker is formed or a new excos are elected. “We did this in the best interest of the party because we believe that Mohammad Abacha will be a stronger PDP candidate in Kano, and since this is the condition of the former candidate, we will abide by it,” the former chairman added.
