…pilgrims to enter only through Tel Aviv as Jordan remains unsafe
The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has lifted the suspension on Christian pilgrimage to Israel, declaring the Holy Land safe for pilgrims.
Executive Secretary of the Commission, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, announced the decision on Saturday at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, following a three-day visit to Israel to assess the security situation.
The Commission suspended pilgrimage to Israel in February after hostilities involving Israel, Iran and the United States.
Speaking at the Wailing Wall, Adegbite said the security situation had improved, particularly in Jerusalem, making it possible for Nigerian pilgrims to resume visits to the Holy Land.
“I promised everyone that I would come to the Holy Land to see things for myself. I have been here for the last three days. The Holy Land is peaceful. Jerusalem is at peace and will continue to be at peace,” he said.

However, the NCPC boss said Nigerian pilgrims would be allowed to travel only through Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, explaining that Jordan was still considered unsafe for pilgrimage operations.
According to him, the Commission would not expose intending pilgrims to unnecessary risks by routing them through Jordan until the security situation improves.
According to a statement issued by the Director, Media and Public Relations, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Celestine Toruka, Adegbite expressed confidence that the remaining 2026 pilgrimage exercise would be successful, noting that previous batches of pilgrims had completed their journeys and returned safely.
He said the Commission remained committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of all Nigerian pilgrims.
The cleric also offered prayers for peace in Israel and Nigeria, praying for President Bola Tinubu, the First Lady, government officials and lasting peace across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He expressed optimism that the resumption of pilgrimage would enable more Christians to fulfil their spiritual aspirations in the Holy Land under safe and secure conditions.
