E. O. Eiwone, a legal practitioner, has formally petitioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Zone 5 Headquarters in Benin City, concerning alleged defamatory and inciting comments made by former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi directed at supporters of President Bola Tinubu.
In a petition dated October 10, Eiwone alleged that Amaechi described Tinubu’s supporters as “thieves” and “mad people” during an ADC town hall meeting in Benin City on October 8.
The APC member claimed the alleged remarks could provoke political tension, violence and a breach of public peace.
He urged the police to investigate the allegations and bring anyone found culpable to justice, citing Section 96 of the Electoral Act 2026.
Copies of the petition were also sent to President Tinubu, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, and APC leaders at the national and state levels.
