Kano Residents Rush for PVCs As INEC Records Massive Turnout Across 44 Local Governments

The Independent National Electoral Commission has reported a remarkable turnout of voters picking up their Permanent Voter Cards across all forty-four local government areas in Kano State.

The commission said both newly issued PVCs and previously uncollected cards were being collected by eligible voters.

The Public Relations Officer of INEC in Kano, Nahila Bello Dandago, who disclosed this to Daily Trust said the commission deployed 171,000 PVCs in the first batch for distribution.

“People are turning up to collect their PVCs, and even those with old cards that they have not collected are coming to collect theirs.”

“We have them across all the local government offices, and so far, the turnout for the collection is impressive,” she said.

Dandago said the cards had been distributed to INEC offices across the state’s 44 local government areas to make collection accessible to eligible voters.

She urged voters who had yet to collect their cards to visit the designated INEC offices to do so.

The collection exercise is part of the commission’s efforts to ensure that eligible voters obtain their PVCs ahead of forthcoming elections.

What You Should Know

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Kano State has announced a massive surge in the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, showing strong citizen interest ahead of upcoming elections.

  • Positive Impact: Making PVC collection accessible across all 44 local government offices reduces travel burdens for voters and ensures more citizens are fully empowered to exercise their franchise.
  • Potential Concerns: Eligible residents who delay collection risk missing out on the final distribution deadlines, which could ultimately disenfranchise them during the polls.
