The Jigawa State Hisbah Corps has arrested eight people over alleged involvement in same-sex acts following a complaint lodged by a 22-year-old man in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Hisbah Public Relations Officer, Dauda Muhammad Hadejia, the complainant, who is a resident of the Kanti area of Kazaure town, alleged that nine individuals had engaged in same-sex acts with him on different occasions.
The complainant reportedly told Hisbah authorities that he later tested positive for HIV, which he attributed to the alleged acts, and appealed to the authorities to seek justice over what he described as actions that had adversely affected his life.
Following the complaint, Hisbah operatives commenced an investigation and launched a search for the nine individuals named by the complainant.
The statement said eight of the nine suspects had so far been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to locate the remaining suspect.
It added that during preliminary investigations, the eight arrested suspects reportedly admitted to engaging in same-sex acts with the complainant.
The Hisbah Corps said it had compiled the relevant information and evidence gathered during the investigation for presentation before a court.
Commenting on the development, the Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Corps, Dr Hussain Yusuf Baban, urged parents to pay closer attention to the upbringing of their children and monitor the people with whom they associate.
Baban also called on members of the public to fear God and remain conscious of the consequences of their actions.
He commended the Jigawa State Government for its continued support and cooperation with the Hisbah Corps in carrying out its responsibilities.
